The Mumbuca Quilombola Community is the first settlement in the Jalapão region (TO), and its origins date back to the 19th century, when runaway slaves from southern Bahia found the place virtually uninhabited. They lived off subsistence farming and bartering for the art that has accompanied the development of the settlement to this day: the Capim Dourado crafts, of which they were pioneers.
